Aziz has worked hard at learning how to form numbers all year long. He often practices during them during his free playtime using the whiteboards and whiteboard markers to show what he can do. As a class we read a story about the number 10. We learned how our hands and feet are symbols for 10 because we have 10 fingers and 10 toes. Aziz loved this story and wanted his follow-up work to be included in his portfolio because: "I got to write 10, 10, 10, 10... It's 1 and 0 and I did a good job of writing the numbers and I even traced my hand."
Aziz has a strong concept of number and is working on transferring this to when numbers are represented in writing. Recently he has been working on challenging herself and exploring numbers in the teens, including what they represent, how they are written and how they are sequenced. Here he is working with Ayesha to choose the numbers that come after and before a given number in the teens.
